Welcome Dr. Kevin Morrison, FZW Principal effective July 1

Fort Zumwalt School District welcomes Dr. Kevin Morrison as Principal at West High School, effective July 1. He joins the district after serving two years at Francis Howell as the Director of Student Services, during which time he realized his true calling is to be a high school principal. “I miss working with students and staff to support their growth,” he says. His focus is on the school environment.

“My overarching goals as the new FZW principal are to create a school environment where everyone feels safe and that they belong; to foster an environment where stakeholder voices are valued; and to connect students to classes and activities that provide them experiences to prepare for the future.”

As a high school student, Morrison was involved in a wide range of activities, from football and basketball to choir. He is looking forward to getting to know members of the West High community by being available at the many different kinds of events the school hosts. He says it's in the small, everyday moments where the connections that create a strong school environment are made.

“Connections are formed through regular interactions and the development of relationships,” he says. “This happens over time and through many small acts of kindness and dialogue with stakeholders.”

He is excited to become a part of the Jaguars traditions. “Fort Zumwalt has such a rich reputation of excellence and sense of community. West High School has amazing staff, students and school community. I look forward to having the opportunity to work with them directly and I count it as a privilege.”

When not spending time with their three children, Morrison and his wife are busy learning more about future travel destinations. He also likes attending sporting events. “Sports have always been a part of my life,” he says.

Before joining Francis Howell, Morrison served seven years as the high school principal in Willard, MO. He also served as an English Language Arts teacher and principal in Hazelwood. He started his career teaching middle school reading in Denver after studying at Metropolitan State College of Denver and Southern Arkansas University. He has since earned a Master’s from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville and a doctorate from Maryville University.
